Submissions
We're always interested in devising features for The Tonearm based on the cool stuff our community is working on, whether that's music, books, films, or something harder to file. Send it our way!
That said, please be familiar with the type of things we cover. Our tastes are broad, but we favor outside-of-the-mainstream efforts and those who proudly walk an independent path.

A few things will give your submission a fair hearing:
- Send it early. We schedule stories six to eight weeks in advance, so a release that's already out, or due in the next few weeks, is much less likely to find a spot.
- Include an informative press release. It's what we share with our writers when looking for someone to cover your work, so submissions without one will likely not be considered.
- Line up photos. We can't publish a feature without several good photos of whoever it's about — the artist, author, filmmaker, or other subject — so please have them ready if you're selected for coverage.
- Send a link we can play in a browser. We don't use Spotify or most other streaming platforms, so we can't listen to you there, and we'd rather not download files just to preview a release. A Bandcamp page (private or public), a private SoundCloud link, or a promotional player like DISCO or Samply all work well.
- Skip the large attachments. Please don't email MP3s or other big files. Send a link instead. Press releases are fine.
If you're sending music, we'd love a Bandcamp download code for your release. It's not a deal-breaker, but it's a great way to send music, and if we write about it, we'll post something in the 'Supported by' section of your Bandcamp release page.
There's a decent possibility that you won't get a reply. Please don't take it personally. But we do check out everything that's sent and will say "hello" if it's something The Tonearm would like to cover.
Most of all, a huge 'thank you' to all our artist friends for putting something new and heartfelt into a world that needs more of that. You're the best.
Write for The Tonearm
The Tonearm is always on the lookout for additions to our crafty team of contributing writers. We're open to word-slingers who enjoy doing interviews and features on artists, broadly defined: musicians, visual artists, filmmakers, authors, fascinating thinkers, and so on. We also dig perspective pieces that put a pin on a cultural moment's historical or subjective context. The Tonearm does compensate our writers. If this sounds like your bag, please get in touch.
